BROWNSBURG, Ind. (Mar. 3, 2016) – Lex Joon Racing is proud and honored to announce a new strategic partnership with the National Shooting Sports Foundation and its “Project ChildSafe” firearm safety education program. Lex Joon Racing will be promoting the program’s “Own it? Respect it. Secure it.” initiative at NHRA events throughout the 2016 season.
After moving from Europe to the United States in 2013, Joon gained a better understanding of Americans’ passion for owning and using firearms. At the same time, he recognized that nearly all firearm accidents can be prevented if gun owners are aware of and follow safe firearms handling and storage guidelines. “Recently, I read about a firearm accident involving a child and it struck me that I was in a position as a professional racer to use my visibility to encourage the proper storage of firearms,” says Joon.
Lex Joon Racing’s goal is to expand awareness of Project ChildSafe’s “Own it? Respect it. Secure it.” safety message and promote responsible gun ownership. The message is quite simple – if you own a firearm or have one in the home, it should be safely and securely stored when not in use to help prevent access by children and other unauthorized persons. “I have no doubt the NHRA community will support this important safety program wholeheartedly,” said Joon.
“We greatly appreciate Lex Joon’s passion for helping to reduce firearms accidents and misuse by bringing Project ChildSafe’s ‘Own It? Respect It. Secure It.” message to the fast-growing National Hot Rod Association audience,” said Bill Brassard, NSSF senior director, communications. “NSSF is proud to partner with Lex Joon Racing on this exciting initiative. Thanks to corporate partners like Lex Joon Racing helping to raise public awareness about the safe and responsible ownership of firearms and the importance of securely storing firearms, fatal firearms accidents are at historic low levels.”
The Project ChildSafe program was developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the trade association for the firearms industry. Project ChildSafe is committed to promoting firearms safety among firearms owners through the distribution of safety education messages and free firearm safety kits. The kits, available through local law enforcement departments, include a cable-style gun lock and a brochure that provides safe handling and secure storage guidelines to help deter access by unauthorized individuals. Project ChildSafe is a real solution to making communities safer. More than 15,000 law enforcement agencies have partnered with the program to distribute more than 37 million firearms safety kits to gun owners in all 50 states and the five U.S. territories. Project ChildSafe’s firearms safety education efforts are supported through tax-deductible contributions to the Project ChildSafe Foundation.
